Janet and Patsy
A Cowgirl's Dream

(CD #007)

In the 1930’s Patsy Montana became a star while on the WLS Barn Dance in Chicago.

Her recording of ‘I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart’ became the very first million selling recording by a female.  That song has been recorded hundreds of times since 1935.  Patsy Montana performed it regularly until the time of her passing on May 3rd 1996.

Her achievements were many including induction into the WMA, CMA and Cowgirl Halls of Fame and she received the coveted ACM Pioneer Award.

I was one of the lucky fans who had a longtime close friendship with Patsy and her family.  In 2002, when it became apparent that it was time to discard some of Patsy’s accumulation of music possessions, the decision was made that I would receive a large box of ‘reel to reel’ tape recordings found in a closet of her home.

There is no way to determine what year these tapes were made but they were old and brittle and often broke as I tried to listen to them.

When I came upon a piece of tape with Patsy singing, yodeling and playing her guitar to a song called ‘I Love to Dance to the Old Rangers Waltz’ I knew I was listening to something special.

You’ll hear how I used her home recording on ‘A Cowgirl’s Dream’.  I wrote this song with that piece of tape in mind.

My sincere ‘Thank You’ goes to Patsy’s daughter Beverly, and her son Michael, for allowing me to use that tape of Patsy Montana in my recording of ‘A Cowgirl’s Dream’.
