John Buttram

One of Janet's famous friends is John Buttram, nephew of Pat Buttram from Green Acres and Gene Autry movies. Here are two publicity photos of Mr. John B. that were available after the January, 2006 performance at Rodeo City Music Hall.

Again, just click on the two pics above to enjoy.

Subject:  Congratulations!

The NARAS nominating committees in LosAngeles have listened to your CD and have placed you in the running for a Grammy in THREE CATEGORIES:

  1. Best Country Album

  2. Best Country Song:  Yodeling Lesson

  3. Best Country Collaboration With Vocals:  A Cowgirl's Dream - Janet McBride (& Patsy Montana)

Congratulations!

Phil York

I really tried to do some different types of yodeling because so many of my young yodeling friends wanted 'faster' yodeling and even wanted me to make it harder to do.  They are already learning the songs and of course, the yodel patterns.

These young yodelers have really kept me on my toes.  I love them all.

Well, I don't know about a new yodeling style, but I did dig up some songs and improved on what other artists did when they made their recordings years ago.  I wrote some verses also on some of the songs.

On "Happy Yodeling Cowgirl" I wrote the middle verse.  The song wasn't long enough and I just wrote a verse.

With "Casting My Lasso" I wrote the little bridge at the end.  I wanted there to be no mistake that the song was talking about heaven.  The yodel in that song was a variation of some of the others I have done over the years.

For "Yodel Mountain" I wrote the last verse.  It wasn't long enough so I helped it along.  The yodel pattern was kind of like what Carolina Cotton did on the original.

On "Whatever Happened to the Yodeling Cowgirls" I wrote the last verse but I just re-used some of the original author's words to do it.  It needed to be longer.  The yodel in there was made up of some patterns that I liked from other songs.

With "Singing My Song of the Trail" I re-arranged the line in the middle of the yodel.  The original sang words in there, but I put a yodel line.

"Santa's Yodeling Song" is the full length on this CD.  It is the last song on the 50 Years set, but we had to cut it a little to make it fit.

Of course, "Silver Moon on the Golden Gate" [with Emma Tucker] was cut way back in the 1980's, but it had only been on a 45rpm so I put it on this CD because it was good enough to be put on it.  Emma said 'go for it. '

New Yodeling Style?  I don't know but I do know I actually tried really hard to be different from the other CD's.  Others have said that they hadn't heard those 'yodel patterns,' so maybe I did something right.

Sandra Farr

Ms. Farr sent Janet a wonderful note, with copies of a news article in which she was mentioned, and the program for the concert in which she performed. We present them below.

Thank you Ms. Farr!

Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo

I now have my own copy of Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo by Bart Plantenga. Pictured above are pages 224 and 225. The photo presents Janet with the Harbor Playboys.

Here are the page listings in the book's index for mentions of our Janet:

    • Page ... 27
    • Page ... 221
    • Pages .. 222-225
    • Page ... 306
Says Janet:  I found my name in other spots not in the index. It is just so great to be remembered in something as good as that book is. Yes, I feel so blessed. The book, CMT, and I can't imagine what else might come along.

You can still hear NPR's radio show featuring this book.  Mr. Dick Gordon hosted the broadcast on
December 24th, 2003.

From this video, recorded in 1991, we captured several screen grabs, and placed them on our photo page.

Tucked in my file box,
I've kept this flyer
(which tells about the video)
all these years.
