January, 2005

Hi All,

I will be at Rodeo City Feb. 12, and so will Little Aly Sutherlin.  They are going to be at the Buckaroo's on the 13th, so they just decided to come in early and do the Rodeo City Show.

Hope everyone can be there to see Aly.  She's a treat.

Yes, we are always thrilled to go to Calif because I can see old friends 'the DeNicolai's', (remember them, they are the people that Ernie Moore met at Fan Fair years ago and invited them to stop in at the Mesquite Opry on their way home to Calif.) and my brother and his family.  We'll be home by Mother's Day however.  I think my kids would like that.

Kata Hay is now in Pigeon Forge and rehearsing for the new show she will be in.  I am excited for her.

Do we have a link to Kenny Roberts 'King of the Yodelers'? He is in his late 70's and is one of my 'heroes' from when I was a teen (www.kennyroberts.homestead.com).

I hear from hom often. He is truly a superstar in my book. He sold a million records in 1949 with his song 'I Never See Maggie Alone,' and he recorded the great yodeling song 'She Taught Me To Yodel' in the 1940's.

Janet.

[Re: Johnny Crawford and the Festival of the West in March, 2005]

Johnny Crawford was one of the special 'Western Movie' guests who were there signing autographs and meeting the public.

John and I talked with him for a few minutes and reminded him that he had been a guest on our Mesquite Opry show one Saturday night.

He said he remembered being there and that he had a wonderful time with the people he met in Mesquite.

[Re: the new link to Carolina Cotton]

This is Carolina's daughter Sharon Marie whom I just love. She has been so great to me.

We usually visit with her while we are in California, and plan on seeing her in May while visiting my brother after the Adams Avenue Gig.

[Re: A yodeling fan who flew all the way to this country from Japan ... just to meet Janet and hear her sing.]

We left here this am at 9:30 for the early yodelers [The Buckaroo's at Fort Worth Stockyards, Fort Worth, Texas].

We got there early by design.  Today was the day we were to meed a 'long time fan' from Japan.  He flew to Texas just to visit with me and I promised that I would sing him a song in person (it is Buckaroo's day and I don't usually sing).

Their host brought him early and we ere early too so we got right into talking.  My fan's name is Mukai from Osaka.  He brought with him all four of my albums from Germany which I autographed for him.  He loves yodeling and yodeled along with each song I sang.

He requested one song, 'Almost Three,' which I did for him.

Since I didn't have any kids arrive to yodel until 11:35, I was able to have a wonderful visit with Mukai and I sang several songs for him while I was waiting.

What an honor it was for me to be able to meet a fan and entertain him 'one on one.'  Everyone just loved having him at Buckaroo's.  He stayed until we were ready to leave for home at 3:30.  He stayed at the Stockyards Hotel tonight with his friends who will then take him to DFW in the morning for his flight back to Japan.

It was a first for me.  Janet

Re: The Patsy Montana Music Festival

We had a good time on our trip and made some good friends.  Sang lots.

Chelsea Beck won first place in the Patsy Montana International Yodel Competition.  Our friend Catherine Bowler won Silver and Madison Ledbetter won Bronze.  All are kids I have worked with and I am so very proud.

Tiffany Jo from Tucson had to leave on Saturday Morning due to a family emergency, and she was not there to compete.  Tiffany was great also, and would have been a real contender for the first prize, but for this year, it just wasn't meant to be.

We're all so proud.

Re: The AWA Youth Organization

It is a group of some of the families of the kids that I have worked with ... just trying to let the world know that there are some 'youth' involved with the AWA, as well as older folks and artists.

That picture on the front [of their website] is of me, Chelsea Beck, and Caleb Wallace.  It's a pencil drawing done by Chelsea's Grandfather.

[Editor's Note: Janet is now scheduled to re-appear at RCMH on October 15th!]

Re: The Rodeo City Music Hall Performance on Saturday, July 1st.

The crowd seemed bigger than the time before. The show was really good.

There was a new fella who really sang well. Tammy did a wonderful job and Emma Tucker was also very good. Mike Shirley and the kids were excellent and the other regulars were fine.

John Buttram was there to help with the M.C. chores and he is such an addition to any show.

I was satisfied with our performance. John is still fighting a skin situation, and his meds have him not quite up to par, but he did good on his yodel and that is all we ask of him. He always loves being on the stage.

I did 'I Only Want A Buddy' with a yodel, and together we did 'Yodelers Dream'.

Larry Shipman was there to play also. On the second half I did 'I Guess They Didn't Know' from the Gospel CD.  I think you'll like that one too.

August 17, 2005

John and I, along with our friends Lowell & Nan Lydic, drove to Pigeon Forge to see our friend Kata Hay at her new gig The Fiddlers Feast.

What a thrill it was to see the beautiful Red Headed Sweetheart of the Western Music World as a member of the Smoky Mountain Legacy Band. Kata signed on for the season and she performs 5 days a week, sometimes 2 shows a day.

The show is a fast moving musical trip through the Smokeys with Western, Country, Bluegrass and, yes, even Yodeling tunes. Kata is a member of the cast and each member does one or two songs each show.

Kata did the greatest of jobs on stage singing harmony and playing rhythm guitar for the whole program. It is a great place for Kata to meet fans and be seen by some of the movers and shakers of the music business.

Kata continues to write songs, and plans on making a trip or two to Nashville to 'check out the situation' when possible.

We couldn't have been more proud of her, even if she had been one of our own. Actually we have known her for about 9 years, and she seems like one of our own.

We recommend you make the trip.

Janet

September 17, 2005

I will be holding 'yodeling workshops' at the Gene Autry Oklahoma Festival on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Sept. 29-30 & Oct. 1). Please invite all to attend. It is a part of the four day event.

The festival in Cheyenne was wonderful. First there was great cool weather this year and that was super. The festival is known as the Cheyenne Cowboy Symposium and if any of my fans missed it this year they should make plans now to attend in 2006 whith the dates being August 31 through September 3, 2006. We have been invited again and have our calendars marked.

The festival in Lubbock went really well also. The weather at night was cool and the days were wonderful for all and with no rain on the Chuck Wagon Camp, the crowd was big. We have also been invited back for 2006 with those dates being Sept. 7-8-9 & 10 2006.

Our singing at the North Texas Good Sam's Rally in Perrin TX was fun. The great part was hearing the 100 plus crowd yodeling. Yep, we had a little 'yodeling instruction' during our set. What a wonderful group of seniors!

[Updated November 5]

The LONG AWAITED CD of Carolina Cotton is finished and is ready for her fans. I received mine in the mail yesterday. WOW!!!! fits real well with this one.

The title is: 'Carolina Cotton, Yodeling Blonde Bombshell Volume 1.' This leads me to believe there will be more to come.

Can we somehow let people know that this CD is now ready to purchase? I believe they can go to the Official Carolina Cotton Web Site, www.carolinacotton.org.

[Editor's Note: as of November 5, 2005, the Carolina Cotton General Store is open and ready for business!]

Her daughter/and friend has given me a mention in the 'special thanks section' of the liner notes.

John and I have visited with Sharon Marie (Carolina's Daughter) each time we go to So. California. She is a great gal and has done a great job in making this CD available for her fans.

October 3, 2005

We had a great weekend at Gene Autry, Oklahoma. This is a photo of Charlotte Autry-Johns.

She is a wonderful gal. She is a 'third' cousin to Mr. Gene Autry and has a really great voice.

This was our first meeting and she did a yodel before she left.

Needless to say she is a beautiful person.

The Festival was a very exciting time. I was super busy with three yodeling workshops (one each morning), and then our showcases, and also MC'd each day.

I loved it all.

More to come,

Janet

There are no entries for November, 2005 as this webmaster was away to attend his mother's funeral.

December 9, 2005

I hope this photo arrives OK. The roses were from the Musgraves.

The inscription on the lower plate of glass reads:

THE HALL OF FAME OF THE WESTERN MUSIC ASSOCIATION PRESENTS 'THE PIONEER TRAIL AWARD' TO JANET MCBRIDE FOR INOVATION, ARTISTRY & ACHIEVEMENT IN EDUCATION, PERFORMANCE & PROMOTION OF WESTERN MUSIC AND IDEALS  NOVEMBER 28, 2005

It is green glass, 1/2 inch thick, 19 inches tall, two tiers and very heavy. You can see me with it at photographybyfaith.com

Thought you'd like this one sent by my friend Jay Taylor of North Carolina.

[Editor's Note: If you want to see more pictures of Janet and her award, please visit Roy W. Tucker's page covering the Dallas, Texas Gene Autry Fans' 2005 Christmas lunch here.]

December 14, 2005

I did tape (12-06-2005) Voice of America Cowboy Christmas gathering, and that whole thing will be shown in CHINA. Yep, I sang Santa's Yodeling Song and He Taught Me To Yodel. John was on it also.

I'll let you know if/when it is shown.
