Re: Response to the news that Jim Garling had commented on one of her photos in Facebook, posted there by the webmaster...

Jim and his wife Doris are dear friends. He has also been a mentor to youngsters in his part of the world.

He doesn’t get much credit but he is always working with kids who want to learn how to play the fiddle. He lives in Guthrie, Oklahoma and he and Doris are great folks.

Re: Christmas Eve message after sending a never before released photo of her husband John and seeing it on the site...

Please click to see a larger version.

How nice that he [John] is looking so handsome [in the last picture taken of him and just posted by the webmaster].

Heading out right now for my son's house. Taking the ham for them to put on in the morning. That way I won't have to wrestle with a very hot container tomorrow.

My cooking is all finished except for making fruit salad tomorrow morning and making the gravy to put over the dressing. I finished the dressing this afternoon. yummm. Cornbread of course.

Gotta go. Thank you. Janet

Re: Early Thanksgiving week...

Got in Sunday about noon [from Albuquerque]. Had to catch an earlier flight to make sure I got here before the freezing rain.

Picked up [my little dog] Daisy, and [a relative] arrived from Alabama. No time after that to even think.

All is well. Cooked a Turkey, cut it up for tomorrow, made dressing, made the sweet potatoes, and sent all to [family member's].

Ran to wally world for buns, and now will only have fruit salad to make.

Going to [a relative's] home along with 30 other folks [for the holiday]. So, been busy.

Had fun enough in Albuquerque.

You [the webmaster] have a good day [yourself] Thanksgiving.

Re: Albuquerque...

Hello all, I just flew in from the WMA in Albuquerque where it was snowing, and I changed flight time and got home and out of the mess before there was a cancelled sign on my way home. :-) I had a good time.

Didn't sing, pick, jam or anything but did visit and see Mikki, Leah, Devon and the Outlaw, Judy James and Jenive from Cowtown Opry WIN AWARDS FOR VARIOUS STUFF. Yep, we all could be proud.

Re: Mallary Hope...

Please click to see a larger version.

These are Janet's comments about Mallary Hope's latest news, both of her engagement and of her appearance on Fox news.

In October:

Loved it [announcement of Mallary Hope's engagement at the Grand Ole Opry]. I will be watching Fox on her day. So proud she has a song being Released by one of the new artists [Danielle Bradbery - song: "My Day"]. She needs to keep it up for sure.

In November:

I was watching for sure. So pretty and nice message in her song. She did great.

You can see information on Danielle Bradbery's new album (with Mallary's songwriting credit) by clicking here.

Re: Janet and the Big D Jamboree...

Please click to see a larger version.

On November 12, Janet wrote the following: EXCITING THING HAS HAPPENED. I am included in a Bear Family Box Set on the BIG D JAMBOREE Just released.

I am singing My Longhorn Release YODELING JAN, which is the last song in the 8 box set. It is awesome.

Janet continued on November 13: I have received a 'box set' from Bear Records. It is mind blowing. I did talk with Kevin Coffey a year or so ago (or more) and sent a photo or two. These two got in the very large book that comes with the set.

Stanley was right when he said: "Gramma, you ARE famous." I am sorry that the price of this set is so much. The book that comes with the four double CD set says that I am probably known more for the people that I have 'mentored', and mentions my book.

Since this about the Big D Jamboree, it does not mention yodeling but the record they end the full eight set on is my YODELIN' JAN recording made in Dallas, which ties it in with Dewey Groom and the Big D Jamboree.

MERRY CHRISTMAS JANET MCBRIDE--Mom and Gramma to some and Mentor and friend to others.

You can see the two photos that "got in the very large book" below. Clicking either one will bring up a larger version. Wow! By all means, congratulations Janet!

-o-

Said Janet's granddaughter upon hearing this news:

Congratulations Gma McBride! We are so proud of all you've accomplished and continue to do, and most of all we are extremely blessed to have you in our lives!

We Love You!!

Re: Mentees and Thanksgiving...

Mentees coming tomorrow. One is coming for yodel coaching. She plans on entering the yodeling contest at WMA and, to win that award, you have to yodel more than sing.

It is all about variety of yodel patterns and we will work in her performance.

Thanksgiving is family of course but this year is a biggie. We'll gather at my daughter's house and we'll pray for a warm day cause there will be way too many folks to be just indoors. But it will be great.

Buckaroos Sunday. Also Mikki's CD release party. Busy day for sure.

Life is good.

Below is the flyer for Mikki's CD release party mentioned by Janet.

Re: the Gene Autry Fan Club Christmas get-together...

We will have the Gene Autry Lunch Bunch Christmas Lunch at 11:30 AM Saturday Dec. 7th in Dallas.

We need confirmation of attending so that we can have the room set up for the fun.

Lots of the regular talent will sing a song or two. Sweets for the party are welcome.

Re: the Buckaroos in Devon Dawson's absence...

Bucks went well. Yes, Devon was missed, but we had Tom Schneider, Phil St. Marie, and Ruby's Dad Mike. They all came and played for the Bucks along with me.

We had time for each of the kids to do 2 songs each. They impressed the crowd for sure. That was Sunday [October 13].

Saturday [October 12] we had several Buckaroos on the shows in McKINNEY, and they really impressed That crowd too.

Monday [October 14] we had two Buckaroos with the CTO Saddle Pals at the State Fair and they both did great. I stay busy mentoring all who ask, and I still love it. It keeps me going.

Re: the webmaster's forwarded letter originally sent to Best Buy's CEO complimenting their superb tecnician, Efrain Garza...

Well, this is just a great report on a really nice person who just happens to work for a really great Major Business in our town.

Not many people in this world take a few minutes with a customer who isn't buying everything in the store [but rather attends to] just what he needs.

And with the help from Mr. Garza, Paul White is back in business helping lots of folks he truly cares for.

My thanks to all involved for making everything work.

Re: CMAfest on ABC and trip to Burton's Bend...

[Kacey Musgraves] did a beautiful job and looked great. And yes, the little girl and the other girl were very good. They got seen by MILLIONS so, good O for them.

I just got home and had a good time. I felt really good with my performance for the first time since John passed away.

I practiced hard and hope it showed. I will go back for next year, and was asked for the other September Nebraska show "Miles of Memories" also. Yippee.

Re: Local storms and Burton's Bend...

We got some wind and thunder but no precip [during the recent local storms]. I'm fine.

Will make plans for Burton's Bend. I am staying at the home of a lady I have stayed with before. Her home is near the school where we perform, which is a treat.

She is a widow also and doesn't fuss or try too hard. She makes toast and coffee, and that is perfect for breakfast. They have food at noon in the school so I hang at the festival till bed time, and so does she.

Yippee!

Re: Ernie Moore's passing...

A friend just called me and said that Ernie's Dad could not reach him and had the Mesquite Police go do a 'welfare check.' They found him passed away in his reclining chair at his home.

This is sad. I used to see Ernie some around town, but it has been a long time since I heard from him. He used to call to say 'hello,' but that was some time ago also.

From the webmaster: Ernie Moore used to work at the Mesquite Opry behind the concession stand. He was a friend of all the Opry regular performers, and would join them in after-show meals. You can read his obituary, and condolences in honor of him, by clicking here. Rest in peace, Ernie.

Re: A "typical" June Saturday...

As for my day, I began with the back yard at 6:30 am, removing two bags of flower bed weeds and stuff that had gone to seed (too hot to wait much longer).

After that I walked my mile with Daisy [my pet dog] who loves that walk so very much, then home and practiced some songs for Burton's Bend and the two songs I will sing in Lubbock when I accept my award in September.

I am so rusty and was molding here until I realized how bad I am so I will practice daily until Burton's Bend/Holbrook.

I don't plan on much else today.

Re: Mother's Day...

I have had a good day. Church at my son's church, dinner with them and their extended family, flowers and gifts and a long nap with Daisy [my dog]. Who could ask for anything more?

Re: George Jones...

As soon as Janet heard of the passing of "The Possum," she sent simply an Email with no text and, in the Subject line, only these words: George Jones has passed away.

Next she sent the picture below, and the following message:

This photo has so many great artists who are gone now but THIS SHOW WAS A DEFINITE HIGHLIGHT IN MY LIFE.

HANK WILLIAMS HAD THE GIFT ALSO, BUT AS WE SPEAK TODAY, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER COUNTRY ARTIST WHO WILL HAVE LIVED THROUGH SO MUCH PAIN IN HIS OWN LIFE AND COULD THEN SING AND PHRASE A SONG THAT MADE YOU 'LIVE THE PAIN WITH HIM'.

I didn't know George Jones well but we did work some shows together. The first one was THE BIG D JAMBOREE and then at the Longhorn Ballroom, all in the 1960's.

GEORGE JONES WAS THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC THEN, AND HAS BEEN EVER SINCE. NOTICE I SAID 'COUNTRY MUSIC' FOLKS.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. GEORGE JONES WAS 'COUNTRY'.

Re: Kacey Musgraves CD liner notes...

Please click to see a larger version.

I purchased Kacey's CD Friday and listened to it all on my way to Mary's home Friday.

It is very good, song writing very good, sessions all good, and her singing is 'today' but also Kacey and really good.

This is why I am sending this email.

In her liner notes of THANKS TO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND MENTORS,
THERE I AM.

This is what she said:

JANET MCBRIDE - I wouldn't have been driven to pick up an instrument if it weren't for you. Thanks. You're still the yodeling queen!

Just wanted to pass that on. How cool is that?

Re: Kristyn Harris in concert...

Hello to all Buckaroos,

This is a great opportunity to see KRISTYN. As you know, She was a Buckaroo for several years until age 18, then became a CTO Saddle Pal.

Now with her new CD/which is really great/she will be known to the world.

Re: Jack Greene and Ray Price...

In mid-March, Ray Price announced the death of Jack Greene on Facebook with these words:

March 15.

HELLO EVERYONE,

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED THE SAD NEWS THAT ANOTHER OF MY OLD FRIENDS HAS PASSED AWAY. JACK GREENE HAS GONE HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD.

JACK MADE HIS MARK WITH SUCH HITS AS 'STATUE OF A FOOL', 'THERE GOES MY EVERYTHING' AND SO MANY MORE. I REMEMBER JACK AS A TRUE GENTLEMAN AND KIND PERSON WHO LOVED THE LORD AND DEDICATED HIS LATER YEARS TO SINGING GOSPEL SONGS AND SHARING HIS LOVE OF THE LORD WITH ALL OF US.

LET US ALL REMEMBER JACK TODAY.

THANKS, RAY PRICE

We've lost another legend. Rest in peace, Jack Greene
(1/7/30 - 3/14/13).

After reading that announcement, this webmaster contacted Janet and received the following photo and words:

Please click to see a larger version.

[I have] no photo of me with Ray Price, but what a STAR he is. I first heard him in his REAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAYS and WOW he was super.

He changed his music style and became a SUPER STAR with the more modern sound of country music, and who could blame him for wanting to get his name and music known world wide.

Jack Green came to the Mesquite Opry, and it was a pleasure to see him in his later years and and to spend time with him and the 'opry group' after the Mesquite Opry Show with his wife.

We all had a wonderful time that night and those are the best memories of all.

Jack Green was a SUPER STAR IN MY BOOK, AS IS RAY PRICE.

Anna Kate is one of my 'mentees from online'. I met her for the first time along I-20 and U.S. 80 and we talked and took this photo.

She is a really cute girl [from Clinton, Mississippi], has a good yodel already and some great parents. They were headed to Fort Worth for a dance competition.

Re: Kacey Musgraves in Southern Living Magazine...

I am aware this stuff is coming in fast and furious but kids, imagine how Kacey feels. This is all just wonderful for her.

Don't forget, she earned it. She began as a Buckaroo in 1999 and began writing songs about that same time. She hasn't stopped walking toward this day. She stayed with her high school class and finished and graduated with her class, gave Austin a try and found that was not her style and then, with the help of her family, she moved to Nashville to 'give it a try'. If that didn't work out for her, she would return home and enroll in higher education.

Well it worked. Her songwriting got her noticed and now we are watching success as it happens. You go Kacey. Remember your friends in Texas.

From Kacey's manager to Janet:

The March issue of Southern Living magazine has a feature interview of Kacey "Hot Off The Skillet."

Quote:

"This month her debut album, Same Trailer, Different Park puts Kacey on the map as the songwriter of her generation!"

WOW!

Re: Kacey Musgraves at the Grand Ole Opry...

I have just received word that Kacey Musgraves will make her first appearance on THE GRAND OLE OPRY AS HEADLINER ON SATURDAY MARCH 30TH.

It doesn't get much bigger than that for a little girl from MINEOLA, TEXAS WHO WAS A MEMBER OF OUR BUCKAROO PROGRAM FOR SO MANY YEARS.

As you all know she is UP FOR ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC'S BEST NEW FEMALE, AND WE ALL VOTED FOR HER FOR THAT, BUT THEY PUT OUT THE LIST OF OTHER AWARDS AND KACEY IS A FINALIST FOR FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR, VIDEO OF THE YEAR, AND PRODUCER OF THE YEAR FOR THE VIDEO.

THOSE AWARDS WILL BE ON TV ON APRIL 7 TH ON CBS AT 8 PM ET.

BEST OF LUCK KACEY MUSGRAVES FROM ALL OF YOUR BUCKAROO FRIENDS.

JANET AND DEVON

Immediately above you can see a photo of Kacey at her merchandise table posted on Facebook Feburary 12th.

Re: Pretty World Records...

Charlie Ammerman, who runs Pretty World Records, told me last year that he wanted to release one of my Nashville Recordings on Pretty World Records and I told him at that time to 'go for it'.

He has released a Vern Stovall Record from the Nashville Sessions and is about to release one of mine. Don't know what song he will choose however.

You can visit the Pretty World Records website by clicking the photo above, and read their story here.

Re: Arianna Brooke...

Says Janet to the Buckaroos: Some of you will remember our Buckaroo Arianna Brooke with her puppet Nellie.

She entered a talent contest at KSCS radio and WON. I have attached the YouTube link.

They are on Facebook if you want to email them.

The attachment is a beautiful photo of Arianna and she's just beautiful.

You can see the Snapple Show Off Radio Commercial Adrianna was in here, and you can go to Arianna's Facebook page by clicking this link.

A few days earlier, Arianna's parents wrote the following:

Janet & The Cowtown Opry Buckaroos,

We just wanted to send an update to ya'll about what Arianna (former Buckaroo) has been doing lately. Thought everyone would enjoying knowing that she has had the chance to sing and yodel for a SNAPPLE commercial on 96.3 KSCS radio (She entered a talent contest sponsored by SNAPPLE with her puppet Nellie and they won).

We really miss seeing everyone and will try to come visit sometime soon.

Janet wrote: this came in this morning from a Buckaroo's Dad. Thought you 'd love to see it.

Then the father wrote: Dear Janet and Devon,

I picked up the paper this morning and saw a very familiar face on the cover of the Metro section, CTO's very own Kristyn Harris. I've attached the article for your reading pleasure--it's a really nice piece. CTO and Devon also were mentioned. I also saw the DMN's website had this video of Kristyn singing: click here.

Congratulations to Kristyn and to you both for mentoring her so well.

Warm regards

We left the father's name out to protect his privacy. You can see his PDF version of the article by clicking here.

Kristyn herself wrote the following a day earlier, with a link to the same video:

The Dallas Morning News came to my house last week to interview and photograph me. The article will be published in the paper at some point but right now they already have a video up that they took of me singing to my horses early in the morning while I fed them!

Thought you might want to see!

Re: How Janet spent New Year's Day...

Yes, I had a good day. Two families could not attend due to the illness going around.

A total of twelve were sick and so, it wasn't quite as much fun but no one wanted to catch it so, we did our peas and cornbread and hope we don't come down with something.

All is well. Feeling blessed.
