Re: Kacey Musgraves on the CMAs and, immediately afterwards, on Jimmy Kimmel...

Please click to see a larger version.

I enjoyed Kacey's performance [on the CMAs]. Loretta [Lynn] did a good job and I am so glad they had her up there.

Kacey was indeed funny [on Jimmy Kimmel]. Yes, she has been out in the world for several years now and I am sure she has seen and heard it all [in reponse to my comment that Kacey really handled herself well in the comedy routine].

Nothing new here. Getting ready to go to WMA on Wed. I am looking forward to seeing old friends and I hope some of the Buckaroos win or at least impress the folks again.

I'm good.

Said Kacey, when she posted this photo of herself with Loretta on Twitter: Was it all a dream? A delicious, country dream?

Re: Janet's plans for Halloween...

Actually, no [traditional] walk with kids. Rehearsal Dinner with Son Mark who is the Dad of the groom [in an upcoming family wedding].

I will fly to Albuquerque for WMA 11-12-14 thru 11-17-14 and, other than Buckaroos on Nov 9 and Dec. 14, I am not doing anything special.

I'm hanging in.

Re: Kacey Musgraves at the Granada Theatre...

Kacey did her show last night at the Granada Theatre in Dallas.

I was a guest and this photo [below] was taken at the Meet and Greet area before the show. Everyone in the photo is related to me.

What a thrill.

Re: Visiting "John's place"...

[On Monday, September 15 after a Buckaroo day Sunday], I went to Fort Worth for the Stockyard Association's Luncheon, with a side trip on the way home to visit the Veterans Cemetery, and took flowers for John, which I have been doing for a while each time I go the the Luncheon. It is right on the way and needs to be done.

After a message of condolences by the webmaster, Janet wrote this:

I am OK with going by John's place. It is a bit sad, but I am OK with it.

I am reminded of John every day, and it is because of him that I am able to do all of these things. [On the way to visiting his "place"] I see so many people and places where we loved to 'see again', and it helps me make the trip.

Re: Rural Roots Archive CD Award...

Please click to see a larger version.

[This is the] first photo to show from Le Mars Traditional Country Music Association Archives CD [Award] of the Year 2014. It is for the HERE I AM CD. It was taken by Walt Pogue.

[It was awarded to me because it contains] all re-issues of the 1980's and 1990's, and the fact that it is ALL OLD TIME COUNTRY MUSIC FROM THAT ERA - and they liked it.

They missed 'any yodeling' but all of the older cuts of yodeling were re-mastered and put onto the 50 Years CD - so none of that, or same with the old Gospel cuts.

The only reason Who Is This Jesus Person got on this CD is that cut of that song was never on anything but a cassette so it got on there.

Beautiful Award for sure.

Wyoming Rose was there "just because" I wanted to give it another shot.

Everything was old but that one and the Bluebonnet song. It was truly a "bucket list" Item. It began the journey when Phil York completed the project and it was so Good. When I asked Mary to help with the art work, etc, we were on our way.

I will have other photos ASAP. It was a fun time.

Re: Hayloft Gang Program on PBS - KERA in the Dallas area...

Please click to see a larger version.

SET YOUR DVRS TO WATCH THIS GREAT DOCUMENTARY.

For everyone who isn't old enough to remember how great [were] the early days of 'COWBOY, COUNTRY AND WESTERN SWING AND WHERE IT BEGAN' BE SURE TO WATCH THIS PBS SHOW.

I DID HELP THEM WITH FINDING SOME GREAT OLD STARS AND FURNISHED THEM WITH SOME NEVER SEEN CLIPS OF PATSY MONTANA. YEP, AT THE END THEY PUT JOHN'S AND MY NAME

Also remember that Mikki won the world wide contest and got her BEAUTIFUL MARTIN GUITAR FOR WINNING THE WHOLE THING.

Don't miss it. Janet

Added Janet on August 26:

THIS PROGRAM IS LISTED AS 'THE HAYLOFT GANG' AND IS ALL ABOUT A GREAT EARLY SHOW OF OUR TYPE OF MUSIC.

STARS WHO STARTED THERE WERE GENE AUTRY, PAT BUTTRAM, PATSY MONTANA, GEORGE GOBEL, LULA BELLE AND SCOTTY, THE PRAIRIE RAMBLERS, ETC. THEY WERE ALL THERE FROM THE 1930'S.

Here is the message from Mr. Steve Parry sent earlier:

Hi Janet,

I hope all is well for you. I just wanted to let you know that The Hayloft Gang documentary is going to air on KERA (Dallas PBS) on Thursday, August 28th at 10:00 PM.

Please help us to spread the word to folks down in your part of Texas that might be interested in this program

Also the DVD with Extra content is now available from our website (www.hayloftgang.com).

So happy to see that Mikki Daniel's career is doing so well. We like to think that our Hayloft Gang Video Contest played some small part in her success, and of course, the Martin she won.

I know that your mentoring has been very instrumental to her career.

Take care,
Stephen Parry
Producer: The Hayloft Gang

The above photograph of Mikki is of her NEW HORIZONS WRANGLER AWARD, won April 12th, 2014, and is on her website.

Re: Burtons Bend Music Festival...

These are photos Janet sent in from her weekend at the Burtons Bend Music Festival. You can see larger versions of the ones above by simply clicking on them. Below are her words in explanation:

[Here are some] photos from this weekend. The first set has a good photo of a 'fan' [Elna Banzhaf] and [the second] set has Alexa and I on stage.

Got home yesterday about 2 pm and now trying to gather stuff, put up stuff, catch up on emails, gather in a new 'hopefully' Buckaroo and just some rest also. I'm OK. Me

Below is the message Mrs. Banzhaf wrote when she sent in the pictures.

HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS THAT I TOOK YESTERDAY. THE COLOR ISN'T VERY GOOD ON SOME OF THEM DUE TO THE COLORED STAGE LIGHTING BUT ENJOY THEM ANYWAY. I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR SUGGESTING THAT THE TWO OF US HAVE OUR PICTURE TAKEN TOGETHER. IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME.

THANKS A MILLION FOR THE CD THAT YOU GAVE ME. I HAVEN'T SEEN EITHER OF THEM YET BUT WILL SOON. I'M VERY TIRED TODAY, PICKED UP MY PHOTOS FROM THE FAIR AT NOON AND ATTENDED THE 4-Y STYLE SHOW AT 1:00. I'M READY TO CALL IT A DAY.

I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW EXHAUSTED YOU MUST BE AFTER THE LONG DRIVE TO HOLBROOK, PERFORMING TWO DAYS, ETC. DO KEEP IN TOUCH.

LOVE, YOUR FRIEND, ELNA BANZHAF (BONSHAW)

Re: New gigs planned...

It has dawned on me that you do not have one of my trips in your 'information on Janet' bag.

I decided about two weeks ago to include a trip up to Le Mars, Iowa to coincide with my trip to Hastings, Nebraska in late August/early September.

I will appear at the 39th Annual National Old-Time Country, Bluegrass, & Folk Music Festival August 29-30-31 [website at this location], and will be awarded an award for my new CD which will be given to me by 'THE ROOTS MUSIC ASSOCIATION' [link here]. THE ACTUAL PRESENTATION WILL BE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 31 AT 4 PM.

I will then head for Hastings, Nebraska for The Miles of Memories Festival there.

I will sing my Bluebonnet song ["Texas Bluebonnet Waltz"] in the 'TOP TEN FINALS' ON August 2 in Bonham, TX at the Ruby Allmond Songwriting Contest [at this link].

Mikki Daniel also has one of her songs in the top 10 so, it will be an honor just to be in the 'top 10'.

That's about it. I'm keeping up.

Re: Easter plans...

My only plan for Easter is Mimosa Baptist Services with my son and his family then will probably go eat with their extended bunch, or maybe go to daughter's who will no doubt have her two girls/my grand daughters and their children. Family for that day.

All is well. I feel great and hope you do also.

Re: Mikki Daniel, plus 2014 Gala with the Buckaroos...

Update on Mikki Daniel: Her CD won 2014 NEW HORIZONS WRANGLER AWARD at the Oklahoma City Cowboy Hall of Fame. This is a very prestigious and pretty 'big time' as far as I can see.

Dave Alexander and his wonderful Band were a big hit and they had the people on their feet dancing to his music and just all around making the night for everyone in attendance.

The Buckaroos also put on a wonderful performance for everyone. The 2014 GALA WAS A SUCCESS FOR SURE!

Re: whether she was in the Jamie Shipman family concert filming...

We 'could' have been up on stage for a filming (at the end) of some of the crowd but my daughter and I and of course a lot of people didn't go up there on stage.

There was a part when they needed some people down in front standing at the edge of the stage with their hands 'high five' style with the girls coming past, etc. while singing but I didn't think I belonged down there either so, no, not in any filming.

It was our understanding that this video will be used to send to 'booking agents' who need a live stage video when deciding who to hire for what venue.

Re: responses to my questions/comments after viewing her "Janet McBride at the Mesquite Opry" DVD...

Mary [Schutz] actually picked what songs got used but, it ["When"] is a favorite of mine also.

"I'm glad I Didn't Lose" is just perfectly worded and yep, it is another fav.

Mark didn't so much live singing then, still doesn't but he did seem to be a natural.

Re: more comments about the DVD in a subsequent Email...

Mary's work was all that of Mary. She chose the pieces more on how good the 'film' was and I didn't say anything about what to use EXCEPT...

When she sent it to me as 'finished', I looked at it all and told her that the one thing I did each show was 'missing' and that was when I would say after the opening yodeling song, 'Here's a little more yodeling for those people who like to hear it'.

So we found a good piece of video to make that LAST LITTLE BIT OF YODELING. When she did that, I was good with it.

I had grown into being very relaxed with the whole show. We had a great band who could please the crowd, play every song well and I had found myself loving being 'ON'. The crowd were fans and I knew it.

"Clothes" is the one comment that I hear from each one who has seen it. Those clothes were a result of a lot of years in a closet and the ability I had to grab something that would 'match up with something else' and make it look new again. I still have some of those same pieces.

Re: the Jamie Shipman family concert and how she spent Valentine's Day...

It was a nice night with Jamie and the girls and Bruce on stage. They filmed stuff for the video so it was pretty much a fun time.

A girl from the old opry came in and sat right in front of me. Her name is Holly Fisk and she was a big asset to the opry in those days. It was great to reconnect.

No big news for Valentine's. I picked up one grand daughter, brought her home and picked up another grand daughter and the three of us went to see two great grand daughters for a few minutes before
taking the two grand daughters back to their families.

I came home and Daisy and I related and watched the Olympics.

Re: the webmaster's choice of a Valentine's Day graphic of two heart candies, one with "Jan" incribed, and one with "Jon"...

I love the heart but it is John and you have Jon. I loved him no matter how it was spelled.

He was the captain of the ship that landed me to shore in 1976.

The webmaster includes this comment by Janet because it shows how much she still loves her husband, and how protective she still is of him. When creating the graphics, there was a limit of three letters for each candy piece.

Re: Jim Garling plus the Jamie Shipman family's upcoming concert...

Jim Garling is a good friend and we have spent many hours at festivals together. He is a really neat guy.

I am planning on going to the K3 [family of Jamie Shipman] video taping tonight at the Granville in Garland. I truly love those kids.

We all say "Jamie Shipman" [in reference to the webmaster calling her that] but the husband's name is Bruce Kassab thus, she is really Jamie Kassab.

She is still Jamie and a lot of fun to be around.

Re: Randy Travis signed photo for the Mesquite Opry that the webmaster submitted to the "Praying for Randy Travis" Facebook group...

Please click to see a larger version.

Sounds good that Randy is progressing well. I am glad that you are able to keep up with him and his progress.

All is well here. Can't wait for it to warm up but it seems it won't be this week.

Thank you for keeping the webpage up to date with all the 'happenings'.

Here are the words this webmaster used to go along with the photo at the Facebook group:

Back in the mid-90s, I regularly attended the Mesquite Opry, owned by Janet McBride. A young LeAnn Rimes often performed there at the time.

I had previously written Mr. Travis requesting a signed photo and received it. I had followed that up with a framed poem, and he sent me a thank you note with his signature.

So I suggested to Janet that I request an autographed photo for the Mesquite Opry, and this is what resulted.

A few years went by, and Mr. Travis became the first major entertainer to let "our" LeAnn open for him. She had been told that "America will not accept a child star."

Well, a year after she opened for Randy, he was considered "too old for country music radio!" So, he then went to Gospel music.

I submit this to point out the kind of man that Randy Travis is. He's generous, kind, supportive, and an encourager.

Get well, Randy. You're definitely in my prayers!

Re: Chandler Bennett visiting Amber Carrington in Nashville...

I talked with Chandler's Mom and they are up there taking in the town and visiting right now.

She and Amber are writing songs, and will continue to meet for writing sessions as time goes on.

Amber is coaching and mentoring Chandler in every way she can.

Immediately below is a photo taken by the webmaster of Janet with Chandler at the Rodeo City Music Hall January of 2007. Below that is a composite photo of Amber and Chandler posted on Twitter, as was the picture above.

All three will show larger versions by clicking on them. Congratulations Chandler, and thank you Amber!

Re: Response to my comment that Kacey Musgraves' double win at the Grammys was "Unbelievable"...

UNBELIEVABLE IS A GOOD WORD, BUT SO PROUD.

I loved Kacey's outfit for sure. Very Cowgirl and Very Classy. Just too cool.

Then later: Kacey chose to look Classy, and that crowd enjoyed seeing someone with imagination and style to fit the occasion.

Re: being featured in a TCDRS Article...

Please click to see a larger version.

Janet was featured on the front page of the Spring, 2014 issue of the Texas County and District Retirement System's newsletter! It is a three-spage spread, including the cover.

Said Janet: The article is really good.

I responded last year when they had a blurb in the magazine that comes out quarterly to anyone who had suggestions for an article on a retiree.

I sent in a note by email and got a response that it would be sent on to those who did the stories.

It took a while but one day Gerald [McLeod] contacted me. We hit it off and it went from there. YIPPEE I say.

Yes, good. Christmas and all holidays went really well. Family and friends everywhere for Christmas at my son's house, and New Year's Day here at mine.

I'm doing lots of talking to Daisy, my dog. :-)
