Re: Further updates on Kacey Musgraves
Hello to all Buckaroo's,
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
FROM DEVON DAWSON AND JANET MCBRIDE
We love y'all.
I am sending [a link to] the latest songs by Kacey Musgraves. I know some of you weren't old enough to have been a Buckaroo when Kacey was but she was very supportive of the Buckaroo's and was very active in her younger years.
myspace.com/kaceymusgraves
She has 5 original songs on there. Two of these songs are on hold by National Artists. "I Can Fix Him" is on hold for Carrie Underwood and "Easy Thing" is on hold for Martina McBride. Lets hope they cut them on a session soon.
Kacey began writing songs soon after she became a Buckaroo and she continues to write daily. Kacey has now moved to Nashville to work full time at a career in the music field.
Her grandmother Barbara keeps us posted and we appreciate all of her help with Buckaroo's while Kacey was active and she still helps when asked.
Thanks to all of the Musgrave Family and the best of success to our friend Kacey.
Janet and Devon
Janet then followed up this news with an Email to me on December 27, 2008:
Yes, we are all wishing the best for Kacey and her songs. Nashville is such a 'dog eat dog' world and Big Money Talks but if her song or songs are chosen to be recorded by those really big artists, she'll make enough money to survive until she either makes it as an artist or if the Good Lord Has Her planned for songwriting alone, so be it but she is at least working on it.
I have a wonderful letter also on Mallory Hope and her career. Her mother wrote it to me as I had my facts a little mixed up.
She never went to Belmont. She moved to Nashville and immediately had so much work in the music business that she didn't enroll in school.
Her singing partner (Justin Tyler Wilson - I worked with him also back then) who was with her in the finals of the Colgate Country Contest a few years back DID enroll in Belmont and is working in the publishing end of the music business and doing well, which is the best of all worlds for him and I am sure he is also persuing a singing career still.
These young ladies and Justin have worked hard and lets hope it pays off for them. It will be God's Will if they do.

Re: early note on the Von Trapp children in Dallas
Little tidbit. I saw where the Von Trapp Kids are coming to town and emailed. Tickets are non existant/sold out/ but they answered and they will be in Texas in January for several days and they will take time for a visit with us. Yessss. I'll know more as the time gets close. We of course met them in June 2001 and now the kids are grown and stars. I can't wait.

Re: note to the Buckaroos on Taylor Ware
Hello Buckaroo's,
Many of you remember the young girl who yodeled on the 'America's Got Talent' show in 2006. She came in second and didn't win which goes to show not everyone can be first every time.
She will be on Oprah Winfrey's AMERICA'S MOST TALENTED KIDS show that airs today. It comes on at 4pm in our area.
Taylor and her Mother flew into Love Field yesterday/Sunday and John and I picked them up and brought them to our home. They came here for some 'yodeling coaching' from 'me'. Can you believe that? Anyway she will enter the Western Music Association's Yodeling Contest which is in Albuquerque, NM on November 22nd. We wish her the best of luck.
She and her Mother are great folks and we had a great time just yodeling and working on her presentation.
I hope you can all watch her. She is now 13 years old and just like all of you. She wanted to yodel and look where it has taken her. Yodeling alone won't make you a star but she is now writing songs (not yodeling songs) and performing everywhere she can. She has performed with The Riders In The Sky' and is a new fan of western music. You can go to her website www.taylorware.com and find out more about her.
I'm still on cloud nine. Janet

Re: Taylor Ware's announcement of appearance on Oprah Winfrey (the photo below came with the Email)
Hello Yodel Patrol Member,
Watch me, Taylor Ware and Oprah Winfrey yodel together on the Oprah Winfrey Show, this Monday November 17...check your local listing. "It was really an honor to be asked to be on a show of talented kids from all over the world!" and WOW Oprah is beautiful.
Update: In June, performed at Carnegie Hall Weill Recital in New York City and was proclaimed the first solo female yodeler to have performed at Carnegie Hall and the first solo yodeler since the 1920's.
Went on a tour of Australia in July for Yahoo! the internet company to help launch a new website to promote yodeling. Yahoo! Everyone should start their day with a yodel.
In August, got a role in a small movie filmed in Tennessee. It was a lot of fun with a lot of kids. Played a cheerleader. No release date yet.
Remember to watch Oprah if you get a chance. Thank you very much.
Yodel On! XOXO, Taylor

Re: Holiday appearances for the Buckaroos
Hello to all parents and Buckaroo's,
There will be a Fort Worth Parade of Lights on November 28th, 2008.
There is limited space on the CTO (Cowtown Opry) Float so it is suggested that if you want to be on the float that you contact Devon Dawson who will give you time and directions for parking.
Dress Warm, it can be very chilly but it is one of the 'best times ever' since it is a very large crowd that attends this one.
On Dec 6th there will also be the Annual Christmas in the Stockyards Parade Event and Tree Lighting. AGAIN CONTACT DEVON FOR INFORMATION.
The Walton Family will play for this event and CTO will have a wagon for the talent to ride on. There will be tree lighting and singing also.
These events are open to Buckaroo's as well as all CTO entertainers.

Re: Six Flags
Six Flags started Saturday and right off the bad, John pulled a muscle in his neck and was in pain all day enough that he wasn't able to help much on harmonica. He didn't go Sunday but I did and had a good time singing by myself. We/I am in the entry way of the park, under a breeze way, sitting on a stool and singing my heart out while the stream of people go in and out of the place. We are doing 2 -2hour sets and 1 -1hour set on Saturday and 2-2hr sets on Sunday. It is long days but we're doing just great.
All is well. Janet

Re: Kacey Musgraves
A little new news here for her.
Kacey just returned from a big 'music festival' outside of Paris France where she and her father were part of a Texas Group invited to perform. Needless to say, she had a wonderful time.
Kacey is co-writer with Radney Foster on a song that is in the hands of Martina McBride where the song is being considered for her new recording project.
This would be such a giant step for Kacey. She is in Nashville right now writing with Radney Foster and other Nashville writers.
(You know my advice to all of the kids that I have worked with and will work with in the future is, start writing songs right now. No matter if you think you can't, give it a try anyway because it might be the key to the door in Nashville and recording success.)
After sending this Email to me, Janet wrote another to her Buckaroos group captioned "Kacey Musgraves and also Ginny Mac."
Hello kids,
Time passes so quickly and right now some of you Buckaroo's will not know the names of Kacey Musgraves or even Ginny Mac but both of these girls were Buckaroo's and Cowtown Opry Performers for many years.
I am reporting on the good news from Kacey's Kamp. She has just returned from a big event in France where Kacey was there to sing and perform along with a large Texas Talent Group. Kacey and her dad had a great & successful trip.
Kacey also has one of her songs in the hands of Martina McBride. Kacey is in Nashville right now writing songs with Radney Foster and other successful Nashville Songwriters. The song that Martina is considering is one Radney and Kacey wrote together. They have been writing together for a year or more now.
Kids, this is why I stress that you start trying to write songs. It just might be your ticket into the music business one day. No one knows who will write the 'next big thing'.
Kacey met up up with Ginny Mac when they were both backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. Ginny was a guest of the Riders in the Sky and needless to say the ex Buckaroo's had a great visit.
Just keeping you up to date thanks to Kacey's Gram Barbara.

Janet wrote this note after the webmaster first learned his main computer was failing. I include her remarks on that situation because they demonstrate her caring nature. The announcements which follow show her plans for Fall of 2008.
Always sorry that your computer isn't doing all of the right things. I just panic when mine won't work and I don't depend on it for much of anything but email and a typewriter.
We are still on for Six Flags and hope the heat is gone by then. We know it's difficult to be outside in that 100 degree stuff so we'll be praying that if it is what the Lord wants then it will cool down enough for us to hang in for the gig. I so want to do it. John does also so help us by saying sone weather prayers for lower temps in September.
I have booked two gigs recently. I am for sure of both of them but we have a little time on the second one on October 11th at noon in Athens. It is a festival at their arboretum.
Sept. 3 is in Payne Springs, TX at the United Methodist Church at 6:30pm. It is in the Fellowship Hall. We have done this church at least two times before so we were thrilled that we got the call again.
I have sent them both to the website for the bio and possibly the photos if they download well enough. The job in Athens was a direct result of the lady at the church. She picked up the phone and called her immediately when she heard that we had done the shows at the Dallas Arboretum.

To all Buckaroo Yodel Kids, this is of Taylor Ware telling you how to 'do some yodeling stuff'. It is really easy to watch and she is really talking about stuff you can learn. Yes, I know her too.

Eddy Arnold Dies
Below are sentiments Janet offered when learning of the passing of Eddy Arnold this morning, May 8, 2008.
I never personally met him but I have a note here (that I might be able to put my hands on) from him.
John called his office one day to find out the address for mailing my 'Yodeling Tribute' recording way back when it was brand new in 1981. Eddy Arnold answered the phone.
I am sure you can imagine the shock that was to John. The note I have was in response to my record. In the tribute I mention his name.
Anyway, he was a 'giant' in the business and even though his only actual 'yodeling' recording was Cattle Call, he was one of my 'heroes'.
He was a great role model for many many generations of country and western entertainers over the years and then he became a 'mega star' when he had his own very successful NETWORK 'TV' show and was tops on the pop charts.
He invested his money in the town of Brentwood, Tennessee and no doubt became a millionaire from his investments.
No one bigger in Country Music in my book.

The Seagoville Manor [gig] went great. The people actually let out a 'whoop' when we came in the door with guitar and sound stuff.
It is a really appreciative group.

Re: Kacey Musgraves wins award.
Hello to all,
Just letting all of you on the Buckaroo's List know that
Kacey Musgraves (Buckaroo's for many years)
Won TEXAS FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Kacey's Mom called me last night and informed me because I requested to know the information before we had our Buckaroo's Meeting today Sunday May 4th.
Kacey moved to Austin several months ago to work on her career and that move seems to be paying off for her.
Kacey is spending much of her time in Nashville writing songs with some of the great Nashville Song Writers and working gigs all over the country.
Kacey had an awesome weekend at the bit Lake Fork Country Music and Bass Fishing Extravaganza where she performed on stage for over 23,000 people.
You Go Kacey.
Congratulations from Janet and Devon, John and Chuck for working hard and taking your singing career to a much higher level.
We love you, Janet, Devon and all of the COWTOWN OPRY GANG.

Re: Patsy Montana Days.
I will hold a workshop, called the 'JANET MCBRIDE YODEL CAMP', around 9AM Friday Morning and will work on yodeling with the kids who are there. The price is all inclusive with the admission price.
The directions to Ponderosa Trails are:
Take HWY 71 to Pineville Missouri. Turn at county road M and drive across the bridge and turn at the Ponderosa Trails Arrow.
It is a small gravel road which is nearly one lane but soon the woods open up to a beautiful meadow and the Ponderosa Trails Horse and RV Campgrounds.
This is where the Patsy Montana Days Doings will take place on Friday May 30-31-June 1.
The charge is $50 dollars per family for the three days all inclusive.
There will be RV parking but as to pricing for that I have no clue.

Subject: A LITTLE NEW INFORMATION
Hello to all,
I have talked with Jane Frost today and have this information that is new.
The price for the three day event at the Ponderosa Pines event will be $50 per family. I will be there for the full three day event. Since Jane will work most of Friday, we will have a lot of time for yodeling. I will have a workshop that will include all kids together. After that, I will have time for some one on one with each child who is there. I'm not sure how many may show up so we'll determine how much time I can have with each child depending on how many are wanting special time.
There will be stage time for all of the kids and on Friday tracks will be permitted. On Saturday the tracks are out. Someone will play for the kids when they perform orrrrrrr, better yet, they are encouraged to play for themselves.
On Saturday I'll still have a yodeling workshop but might not have as much time for one on one because Jane will have some 'on stage' stuff planned. The Ponderosa has a really nice stage.
SPECIAL NOTES TO MAKE:
You need to bring your outside chairs/lawn chairs because the stage is covered but the audience is open air.
Bring some 'bug spray', 'mosquito spray', 'sun screen' FOR SURE, 'umbrella's FOR SURE', a jacket just in case, some snacks in case the cook isn't on duty, some water, ice chest, stuff like that. It is outside so the whole family can enjoy the space.
I can tell you that it is a wonderful setting and everyone will enjoy their time there if we all plan ahead. There is RV parking space.
Hope this helps to answer the questions.
Remember the Patsy Montana Yodeling Contest will be on Saturday May 31st. In order to enter you must have purchased the full 3 day pass.
Email me if you have other questions: Click here to Email Janet.

Re: response to this webmaster's birthday wishes.
Thank you Paul. It means a lot to me to see some good stuff happening from my 'meager' efforts but like the energizer bunny, I keep going and going and with the Good Lord's Help, I'll have more to do in the future. I sure hope so.
I'm already getting ready to go out to the Arboretum. Since it is a beautiful day I would bet there will be a nice crowd. We start at 12 which means 4 hrs of sets. We take three short breaks with the 3 to 4 o'clock hour with no break by choice.
I have a long list of songs printed out so that I won't have to repeat many. Without that list and the keys available, I'd be a disaster waiting to happen.
This has been fun and I am so glad I was given the opportunity to do this gig.

Re: Festival of the West Award.
I was awarded a beautiful 'belt buckle' at the Festival of the West on Sunday just before the 4 day show was to end. It is called 'A Grammy' which is named after the mother of the two ladies [who will be] in the photo with me.
The Criteria for the Grammy is that is awarded to a nice person who has just a hair of devilment shining through. They told me that their mother was sweet, kind of full of mischief and -like me- she was always willing to lend a hand and help out whoever and whenever she could.

Re: Gene Autry, Oklahoma Museum with Chelsea Beck
I will be at Gene Autry Oklahoma on April 19th where the Museum will host a day for the area's youth 16 and under.
I think the best way to explain it is if you will go to the Oklahoma site and see what she has printed. I know we'll host the 'youth' from that area for a full day.
Mary Schutz has been in charge of this and I am going to be a co-host.
To view the information Janet mentions, just click here, or on the graphic above. Congratulations Janet and Chelsea!

Re: Dallas Arboretum Appearance
Dallas Blooms is spectactular and will no doubt be for each weekend we do.
Tulips and daffodils were awesome.
We had a wonderful time with the public as they passed by. We'll go back March 22-23, after Festival of the West.
About this appearance, Janet added on March 28: We had a 'great Saturday' 4 hrs of singing last week with a packed park. And then Sunday, even though cold and a rainy forecast, was very good with not a drop of rain for our full 3 hrs.
We're ready for another great weekend of singing.

Re: Concert in Mineola, Texas
Last night the show went really well down in Mineola. We took some photos with Chandler Bennett, Kacey Musgraves and Amber Carrington.
Chandler and Amber were on the show and Kacey came in yesterday afternoon to take a couple girls' places on the show soooooo, it was great for us to get some recent shots.
We head to the Arboretum soon. Need to be in our area by 1pm, so since we aren't sure where 'that area is' we'll leave a little early. We'll be wearing coats just in case [of colder outdoor weather], but I have fringe and so does John which means we'll still be 'western'.

Re: Cowtown Opry Award
Oh yes, I got another neat little award last night [at the Cowtown Opry appearance with Cheryl Rogers Barnett, daughter of Roy and Dale Rogers]. I'll see if we got a photo of that presentation. I think John did take that.
The award is in the form of the state of Texas. It is clear acrillic I would guess.

Re: Dallas Arboretum
We sang at the Seagoville Manor Assisted Living Home on Wednesday and packed up and, while fully dressed in our western duds, we drove to the Arboretum and took guitar in and sang for Ms. Rogers.
Bottom line: we will be appearing there several times daily on the dates and times given for the Calendar. I will sing and there will be breaks but I will be in the area on each of those days during those times.
