In the future, we hope to have most, if not all, of Cynthia's UN Speeches on this page. For now, the text below is dated October 5, 2005, and is as Cynthia sent it to me. The picture above is from October of 2011.

Mr. Chairman,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen
"Displaced societies are of value. Their issues are our issues."
"As a single mother, I understand only too well what lack of security can do in the undermining of what they, they Saharwis believe in and wish for as a society. Their ability to withstand all for over 30 years in the pursuit of self-determination is truly a role model for all of us, as we enter this new millennium. For they have displayed faith, honour, compassion and resourcefulness in the face of such opposition. It is my hope that my visit will shed visibility on their plight and value."
Both these quotes are as applicable today as they were when originally released in '01, shortly before and after visiting the Saharwian refugee camps.
As we are now 5 years into this new millennium, let us continue to understand that displaced societies not be valued by their net worth but rather their ability to teach us, ours.
How can we now make their daily life better? Sunglasses would be a nice start.
Thank you for your time~
Miss Cynthia Basinet
